Parenting in UKPosted by Olga in Untagged |

I promise I won't comment on current situation of British economy. There are enough specialists in this country. Anyway, it seems to me that going through British crisis is much more tolerable, than prosperity in some other places, even in Europe.
I met my Russian friend in a park couple days ago. Of course we boasted about our children's achievements. Every mother had at least 5 minutes monologue on her child's cleverness and beauty. As all mothers-emigrants, we complained for lack of grandma's help. Finally we realised that in some fields we are privileged. Sometimes we simply don't notice all facilities in UK, but in comparison with mothers in our countries, our life is so easy. First of all, transport in London is so convenient for parents with children. We can go everywhere without worring about prams or buggies. Lifts or ramps are almost everywhere. As long as you don't use a buggy or a wheelchair, probably you don't pay attention for lowered kerbs... Moreover, when you go out with your child you don't have to worry, that you'll have to change a nappy on your laps. Changing rooms are available in all public places as museums, galleries or leisure centres. My favourite one is in Tate Modern. Except from few places (like a restaurant in Beachy Head, the only one there) nobody has refused warming up baby's food. What I appreciate is understending and readiness to help any parent.
To sum up, me and my friend stopped complaining and decided to go out somewhere for lunch togetether with children.
