The first Christmas in UK| The first Christmas in UK |
|
Because of an expected baby we stayed in London for Christmas for the first time during our stay in UK. Preparations and Christmas itself were really pleasent. Although there was no snow, even one snowflake, atmosphere was festive. It was good experience and gave us a chance to find out more about England. According to Polish tradition we decorate Christmas trees on Christmas Eve. Of course all shopping centres are decorated since the middle of November, but at homes we prepare Christmas decorations only before holidays. This year we had to disobey this tradition and decided to buy the tree on Saturday before Christmas. My husband went to one of the most popular home stuff stores and discovered that there were no more Christmas trees and very few pieces of Christmas decoration. When he asked a customer service if they had anything else, they informed him that Christmas trees had been out of stock already two weeks. It finally appeared that we had our home decorated only thanks to an Indian shop next door to our house. Another new experience was a stroll on Christmas day. In a park strange people wished us Merry Christmas and asked about Christmas tradition in our country. In Poland it's not common to chat with a stranger. I really liked it and it let me feel more homely in a country which is not mine. Therefore I would like to wish you all, who live in UK or plan to move to UK, all the best and a happy New Year.
