This recent addition to Edinburgh’s month long artistic extravaganza seeks to incorporate a bit of contemporary music into the festivities.
An average of 50 different acts play across the city during the middle of August when all the different branches of the Edinburgh festival are in full bloom.
Unlike most music festivals the Edge is not restricted to one arena but takes place in several venues across the city at once. The main ones are The Edinburgh Corn Exchange, Liquid Rooms and Cabaret Voltaire.
Acts as diverse as Dizzee Rascal and Lost Prophets played in 2008 and, although no-one has yet been confirmed for 2009, it promises to be another high octane party of the sort Edinburgh specialises in.
The addition of another arm of the Edinburgh festival is particularly poignant with the prevalence of so many Scottish musical artists making waves at the moment.
Scotland has always had a proud independent musical heritage but the start of the 21st century has been a particularly fertile time for Scottish acts.
You will have to keep an eye on the venues to find out who is playing when and book your tickets directly, making sure that you have the full Edinburgh festival experience of music, poetry, theatre, comedy, dance, literature before finally rounding it off with this major electric noise fest.
